This is probably my favorite part of having a website (apart from creating the work that I feature on it, of course).

My poetry in particular, but not exclusively, is intended to be read aloud. When I'm writing I spend a lot of time reading the work out loud to myself, trying to gauge what it sounds like. I'm interested in the patterns that the sound of words make: are they musical, do they enhance the meaning of the work, are they interesting, evocative, immediate and accessible?

I think that words must have a life off the page. Notes on a stave tell musicians what to play, but the music lies in the voice of the instrument.

I hope you enjoy my readings - occasional mistake and all. They're live recordings.
